As she approached John Sheehan with a plate full of Cool-Whip in each hand, tax associate Elisa Brenneke knew exactly what her target would be.
“I figured most people would be nice and hit him in the shoulder or chest,” Elisa said, “so I wanted to go straight for the face.”
The opportunity to pelt Mr. Sheehan and other volunteers with a pie was part of WK’s annual United Way employee campaign. One pie was administered for every $20 donated to the pie fund of a participating member or associate. Thanks to the generous donations of employees and some very ornery clients, WK raised $940 during the Pie in the Face event. Mr. Sheehan was the lucky recipient of 26 pies, far more than any other volunteer.
Other United Way campaign events included a beer tasting with Andy Fechtel, brand manager for Fechtel Beverage, a trivia night at Shakespeare’s Pizza, the Accounting Olympics and a Missouri beer tasting event at N.H. Scheppers Distributing.
WK associates serving on the 2015 United Way employee campaign committee included Ben Arand, Heather Barnhart, Jordyn Christensen, Danielle Harper, Brittney McDonald, Kyle Menges and Lee Merrick.
“I’m so proud of the firm’s commitment to giving back to the community! The hard work and creativity of the committee, and the generosity of WK members and associates, have made this United Way campaign a success,” said campaign coordinator Beth Fitzgerald. “A willingness to get messy doesn’t hurt either!”
