Printers, computer monitors, laptops, and hard drives were some of the most common items collected during the event, held in both the Jefferson City and Columbia offices. We also received an X-box, an iPad and three microwaves, in addition to numerous other office and household electronic items.
Following the e-cycling drive, the items were picked up by Midwest Recycling Center. MRC reuses items in part or as whole units when possible. If the items are unable to be reused, they are broken down into component parts and shipped to EPA-approved facilities to be separated, shredded, melted or smelted and recycled into the creation of a new product. This helps limit environmental electronic waste and keeps these items from ending up in landfills.
The event was the first initiative developed by WK’s “Green Team.” Event volunteers included Katie Barthel, Nicole Beck, Ashley Dodson, Kari Dowell, Beth Fitzgerald, Shelby Graham, Kara Holterman, Lyle Rosburg, John Sheehan Jr., and Pete Stansberry.
Thank you to everyone who dropped off items and helped us divert more than a ton of waste from landfills!
