Steve’s auditing, accounting and management advisory experience encompasses a broad range of industries, but his areas of concentration are higher education, not-for-profit organizations and governmental entities.
After retiring from the member group in 2016, Steve continues to provide audit, accounting and consulting services.
Steve earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska in 1971. He joined WK in 1977 after obtaining four years of experience with a local CPA firm in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Steve is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA). He was a founding member and has served as president of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Boone County and participated in numerous local organizations’ fund raising campaigns. He has served on the Board of Directors for the MSCPA’s Educational Foundation and as a committee member and chair of the Peer Review Oversight Board of the Missouri State of Board of Accountancy.
Mariel specializes in employee benefit planning with emphasis on the design and administration of pension and profit sharing plans, including 401(k), 403(b) and cafeteria plans. She also works with nonqualified deferred compensation programs and retirement planning. Additionally, Mariel provides personal and business tax services and financial planning, including estate tax, gift tax and business succession planning.
Mariel attended the University of Missouri and earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting, graduating cum laude. She also earned a Master of Accountancy degree from MU in 1973. Mariel joined Williams-Keepers LLC in 1973 and was admitted as a tax partner in 1976. She retired from the member group at the end of 2016.
An active member of the community, Mariel has held numerous leadership positions and served on several committees for the Columbia Chamber of Commerce. She is a past president of the Chamber’s Women’s Network, past treasurer of the Missouri Innovation Center and past president of The Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri. She is also past president of the Columbia Regional Board for Boys & Girls Town of Missouri/Great Circle. In 2014, Mariel served as a Little Black Dress Ambassador for True North of Columbia.
Mariel is a member of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
